Welcome Back to Cedar Creek Adventures

Cyrilda Westerman-Dunn

Living in the country has so many advantages. I want to share my life adventures living retired and in the country.

Since I first posted many things have found my hubs and I facing life decisions. First, I finally got to the point I was ready to have something done about my back. On October 30, 2021 I had a miraculous spinal surgery. I’m so grateful for the skilled hands of my surgeon. I’m finally able to walk with no pain.

Next, Darrell discovered he had prostate cancer. He went through a series of radiation treatments. For six weeks he had radiation everyday except Saturday and Sunday. Now he’s beginning to get his strength back. When I see him on his tractor I’ll know he’s back to normal.

All in all we, both on our way back to normal.

About Me

I know people think lots of gossip goes on in the beauty salons but if you’re as busy as I was there’s no time for gossip. We did hear about exotic vacations, marriages, divorces, babies being born. These precious people were like family to me. I had lost my mother at 23 but in the salon I gained many ladies who were like surrogate mothers to me. They gave me pointers on how to cook, garden, cann my vegetables, knit and crochet. I miss the fun we had in the salon and all the people.

I’m a wife, mother and grandmother. I work as a hairstylist for 45 years. I’ve worked long hours on my feet for all those years. I’m short so most of the time I was on my toes. The salon chairs only go down so far. If I had a really tall person in my chair I would ask them to scoot down in the chair. They were always so good about that. I thought some may scoot right out of the chair. I think my most favorite part of being a hairstylist was hair cutting and coloring.

After working all those years on my feet/toes, I now have arthritis in my feet and hands. I had back surgery a year ago in October and it was very successful. Before the surgery I got to the point it was difficult just walking to my garden. One thing I can tell anyone with back problems don’t put off going and getting it checked out. Take care of your back it’s the only one you’ll ever have. Take care of your feet. Always wear comfortable shoes.

One of the girls I worked with had the water nozzle slip out of her hand while rinsing hair. The water shot up her nose, she got choked and with her coughing and sputtering and the hose, still dancing in the air like a cobra snake, was showering the other people waiting to be next. I was laughing so hard I could hardly catch my breath. The ladies getting the shower didn’t find it funny at all. No sense of humor.

One day an older man dropped his wife off while she was getting her hair done. She waited until he drove up, she got in the car and they drove away. Well, in a little while they came back. He walked her into the salon and explained this was not his wife. Her husband had been sitting in their car waiting for her all this time. FUN TIMES!
